Dottie + Bloom Part 1

I blinked and it's April! We are starting to get some warmer days around here, which is welcomed! Dottie and Bloom has been a pattern in the making for months now. Dottie is a super cuddly bunny with floppy ears. Dottie wears a flower bag so she can carry around her dragonfly friend, Bloom. I made a YouTube video to assist with the bag and for the facial features on the dragonfly. Testers crocheted some adorable bunnies and dragonflies! If you follow me on IG you may have seen their work over there. They are really the backbone for writing crochet patterns in my opinion.

This pattern is split into 3 parts.
Part 1 includes the materials, notes, and Dottie the Bunny.
Part 2 HERE provides instructions for the flower bag.
Part 3 HERE is the pattern for Bloom the Dragonfly.

***You can purchase an INEXPENSIVE PDF of this pattern on Etsy or Ravelry! There is a color version with pictures as well as a black & white printable version included. A diagram is included in the pdf of the back piece of the flower bag and one for the dragonfly frills.

Comparable Yarn Substitutions:
Hobbi Yarn Honey Bunny (4mm hook)

Other yarns I love:
• Lion Brand Nap Time (4mm hook)
• Loops & Threads Sweet Snuggles Lite (7mm hook)

You may use any weight of yarn, just make sure to use a corresponding hook. Gauge is not important for this project. The final product will vary depending on the yarn, hook, and tension.

**When crocheting the legs, tail, and arms onto the body, make sure they are centered. You may have to move your main stitch marker (for the rnd) over a few spaces. Exact placement may vary due to yarn and tension.

Notes:
This is an advanced beginner pattern, some amigurumi experience would be helpful. The bag will be created using a modified granny square. Some experience with granny squares would also be beneficial. However, reach out with any questions or concerns.
• Please read through the entire pattern before beginning.
• This pattern is written in US terminology.
• It is made in continuous rounds.
• Do not ch1 or sl st at the end of each round unless instructed to do so. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.
• Brackets [ ] indicate a part of the instructions that will be repeated x amount of times. For example: [2 sc, inc] x 3 (12 sts) means that you will sc in the next 2 sts, inc in the next st, sc in the next 2 sts, inc in the next st, sc in the next 2 sts, inc in the next st. This round would end with 12 sts. Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of each round.
• Make sure your count is correct before moving to the next round.
• The legs, tail, and arms are attached as you crochet the body & head.

PART 1 - DOTTIE THE BUNNY

Arms (make 2)
Using a 4mm hook and gray
Rnd 1:
sc 6 in mc (6 sts)
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 3-14: sc in each st (12 sts) ••12 rounds••

Lightly stuff the bottom only. I like to leave the arms open, but you can pinch the opening & add 6 sc across to close if you prefer. The arms will be joined as you crochet the body. F/O and leave a few inches for the tail.

Legs (make 2)
Using a 4mm hook and gray
Rnd 1:
sc 6 in mc (6)
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18 sts)
Rnd 4: BLO sc in each st (18 sts)
Rnd 5-8: sc in each st (18 sts) •• 4 rounds ••
Rnd 9: [4 sc, dec] x 3 (15 sts)
Rnd 10-12: sc in each st (15 sts) •• 3 rounds ••
Rnd 13: [3 sc, dec] x 3 (12 sts)
Rnd 14-16: sc in each st (12 sts) •• 3 rounds ••

Lightly stuff the bottom through rnd 8. I like to leave the top open for the legs, but you can add 6 sc across to close if you prefer. Legs will be joined as you crochet the body. F/O and leave a few inches for the tail.

Ears (make 2)
Using a 4mm hook and gray. Starting at the tip of the ear.
Rnd 1: sc 6 in mc (6 sts)
Rnd 2: [sc, inc] x 3 (9 sts)
Rnd 3: sc in each st (9 sts)
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] x 3 (12 sts)
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] x 3 (15 sts)
Rnd 6: [4 sc, inc] x 3 (18 sts)
Rnd 7: [4 sc, dec] x 3 (15 sts)
Rnd 8-16: sc in each st (15 sts) •• 9 rounds ••
Rnd 17: [sc, dec] x 5 (10 sts)
Rnd 18: sc in each st (10 sts)
Do not stuff. F/O leaving a long tail for sewing.

Snout
Using a 4mm hook and gray
Rnd 1
: sc 6 in mc (6 sts)
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18 sts)
Rnd 4: sc in each st (18 sts)

If you would like, lightly stuff the snout. I left the snout unstuffed. This is personal preference. F/O and leave a long tail for sewing. Using pink thread or worsted weight yarn, embroider the nose 2 sts across and 2 sts down to form a “T” or a ”Y.” The bottom of the nose goes through the mc.

Body and Head
Using a 4mm hook and gray. Starting with the body and working up to the head. The legs, tail, and arms will be attached as you crochet. Stuff as you go.
Rnd 1:
sc 6 in mc (6 sts)
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18 sts)
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24 sts)
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] x 6 (30 sts)

**The legs will be attached in the next rnd. The legs should hang down in front of the body with the working round at the top. Tie the yarn ends from the legs together loosely.

Rnd 6: 8 sc, attach the first leg with 6 sc through the leg and body, 2 sc, attach the second leg with 6 sc through the leg and body, 8 sc (30 sts) (pictures 1 & 2)
Rnd 7: [4 sc, inc] x 6 (36 sts)

**Fold the body in half to find the center of the body for the tail. The tail will be created in the FLO first st of the rnd. Move your stitch marker if needed. I place mine in the BLO of this stitch. The remaining sts will be worked through both loops as normal. (picture 3)

Rnd 8: with cream fur yarn, FLO sl st, ch 10, FLO sl st back into the original sc to create a loop; with gray 35 sc (36 sts)
Rnd 9: work 1 sc in the BLO from rnd 8 for the 1st st only, 35 sc (36 sts for the 1st st only, 35 sc (36 sts) (picture 4)
Rnd 10-12: sc in each st (36 sts) •• 3 rounds •• **Begin stuffing the body.
Rnd 13: [4 sc, dec] x 6 (30 sts)
Rnd 14-17: sc in each st (30 sts) •• 4 rounds ••

Rnd 18: [3 sc, dec] x 6 (24 sts)
Rnd 19: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18 sts)

**The arms will be attached in the next rnd. Make sure the arms are even on each side of the body. Pin the arms with safety pins or stitch markers to hold the arms in place (picture 5). You may have to move your main stitch marker (for the rnd) over a few spaces. Tie the yarn ends from the arms together loosely (picture 6). Hide ends on the inside.

Rnd 20: 3 sc, attach the first arm with 6 sc through the arm and body, 3 sc, attach the second arm with 6 sc through the arm and body (18 sts)

**Stuff the body. Starting the head next.

Rnd 21: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24 sts)
Rnd 22: [3 sc, inc] x 6 (30 sts)
Rnd 23: [4 sc, inc] x 6 (36 sts)
Rnd 24: [5 sc, inc] x 6 (42 sts)
Rnd 25-32: sc in each st (42 sts) •• 8 rounds ••

**Stuff the head.

Rnd 33: [5 sc, dec] x 6 (36 sts)
Rnd 34: [4 sc, dec] x 6 (30 sts)

**Stuff the head. If you are using safety eyes, insert them between rnds 29-30 with about 5 sts between them. If you are using blanket yarn, you may want to place them between rnds 30-31. Placement will vary based on different yarn weights and size of safety eyes.

Rnd 35: [3 sc, dec] x 6 (24 sts)
Rnd 36: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18 sts)
Rnd 37: [1 sc, dec] x 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 38: dec x 6 (6 sts)

Stuff. Sl st into the next st to F/O. Weave tail through the FLO of the remaining 6 stitches, pull to close. (pictures 7 & 8)

Assembly

• Pin the snout in place. The bottom of the snout should be on rnd 22 with the top on rnd 28. Lightly stuff. Sew onto the bunny.
• Pin the ears standing up on the head on rnd 34 or 35 and angled so the ear lines up with the arm. Approximately 6 or 7 sts between the ears at the top. Shape the ears as you wish.
• Use pins as a placeholder for the eyes. Mine line up with the ears. When you are happy with the placement, embroider the eyes with black thread or black yarn over rnd 29 with about 5 sts between. OPTIONAL: Add eyelashes one st over; one st down.
