Pattern Description:
Hugs the Elephant is an easy amigurumi pattern that is crocheted with worsted weight yarn. If you would like to create a larger version you might choose to crochet with a bulky yarn and coordinating hook. This elephant is low sew and works up quickly. The specific yarn I used for this example is Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn. WeCrochet’s Comfy Worsted or Lion Brand Heartland would be a good substitute. These are just my personal preferences. I have also tested this elephant pattern using Premier Parfait Chunky yarn. Although it works up great as the pattern is written, I did adjust the arms slightly. The arm mod is included below.

Notes:
Although this is a beginner pattern, some amigurumi experience would be helpful. However, reach out with any questions or concerns. Please read through the entire pattern before starting your design. This pattern is written in US terminology. It is made in continuous rounds. Do not ch1 or sl st at the end of each round unless instructed to do so. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of each row. Make sure your count is correct before moving to the next round.

Pattern Overview:
The pattern is considered to be low sew. The legs, arms and tail are attached as you crochet the head and body. When I started crocheting amigurumi, I did not enjoy sewing the pieces together at the end. With that in mind, I try to create my patterns with as many pieces attached as you go. Once you are finished, all that remains are the ears, trunk and eyes (unless you choose to use safety eyes). The top part of the blanket just takes a few whip stitches to attach and then you are finished! The color options are endless. You could make the entire elephant one color or maybe try a variegated yarn. Adding little elements would be super cute too. Maybe add a little bow or flowers, taking care to secure those extra snug for littles.
This pattern would be perfect for:
