Koala Huggie
Pattern Description:
The Koala Huggie is a sweet amigurumi pattern that is crocheted with worsted weight yarn. If you would like to create a larger and softer version you might choose to crochet with a bulky yarn and coordinating hook. This koala huggie is considered to be low sew. The specific yarn I used for this example is Lion Brand Heartland and Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn. I have also tested this koala huggie pattern using Premier Parfait Chunky yarn. I made a couple slight adjustments to the pattern for the bulky yarn. Those mods are below.

Pattern Overview:
The pattern is considered to be low sew. The arms are attached as you crochet the head and the blanket part is attached as you go. This way you won’t have to worry about sewing the blanket on centered. When I started crocheting amigurumi, I did not enjoy sewing the pieces together at the end. With that in mind, I try to create my patterns with as many pieces attached as you go. Once you are finished, all that remains are the ears, nose and eyes (unless you choose to use safety eyes). Then, if you want to make the accessories, you can add those on as well. Adding little elements would be super cute. Maybe add a little bow, taking care to secure any additions extra snug for littles.
This pattern would be perfect for:
• Baby Shower Gift
• Keepsake Gift
• Craft Shows or Markets
• Grow With Me Photo Prop
• Nursery Decor

Mod for Parfait Chunky Yarn
Ok, let’s talk about a couple changes I made for Premier Parfait Chunky yarn. You will need the Koala Huggie Crochet Pattern to use with this mod. I used the same hook size for the head and arms that the pattern calls for. I did change the hook for the blanket part to a 5.5mm hook.
ARMS:
Main Color {Make 2}
Rnd 1: sc 6 in mc (6 sts)
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12 sts)
Rnd 3-8: sc in each st (12 sts)
F/O. No need to stuff the arms.
EARS:
Start with White {Make 2}
*The ears will be worked in rows. Turn your work after each row.
Row 1: sc 6 in mc, ch 1, turn (6 sts)
*for the next row the last st will not be worked. This will help keep a flatter edge.
Row 2: inc x 5, ch 1, turn (10 sts)
Row 3: [sc, inc] x 5, ch 1 , turn (15 sts)
**change to Color A**
Row 4: [2 sc, inc] x 5, ch 1, turn (20 sts)
Row 5: sc in each st (20 sts)
F/O. Leave a long tail for sewing.
Use this modification with parfait chunky yarn or other thicker yarn for simpler ears and shorter arms. You will need the original pattern to complete the huggie.
